Contemporary Music

In the wider and popular context of its meaning, Contemporary music is any music which is currently composed. This may include any form of present music.

However, in historic and strict musicologic terminology the term Contemporary music exclusively refers to the modern forms of musical art and includes:
  • The post-1945 forms of contemporary music (serial, experimental, atonal, etc.)
  • The  post-1975 forms of contemporary music (postmodern, spectral, minimalist, etc.)
The development of contemporary music has followed the rapid expansion of the musical industry and is influenced by the dominating market trends.
